Photography is a source of ultimate pleasure. Whether practiced as a hobby or as a source of livelihood it cant just be anything but exhilarating.
Having Art as a background in education can only cajole the artist in a person when he wields the camera.
Sagar Suryakant Gotkhindikar is one such graduate of applied art from Abhinav Kala Mahavidyalaya Pune who lets his camera walk the artist’s talk. In fact photography is the very food he has been weaned on.
Born in Kolhapur on the banks of the Panchaganga river Sagar shifted to Pune very young in life and immediately after graduation started executing photography assignments for various advertising agencies and clients both in Pune and Koyna. However the urge to excel amidst the best in the business brought him to Bombay the Commercial capital of India. After all. he cut his teeth in advertising photography in Bombay and learnt the nuances of lighting and art directing his shoots thanks to his artistic intuitions and the challenges the tough assignments threw at him.
Sagar’s endeavor to study every brief in all its detail and decide on the framing and lighting approach is his unique strength. There is no push over attitude even if it is an assignment to oblige a friend or a public service job done gratis.
Sincerity has stood Sagar in good stead and today he has a portfolio and a roster of clients worth killing for.
A gentle giant that Sagar is he has always wanted to teach the craft to as many young and upcoming students as possible as a way of giving back to society. He teaches in the prestigious Fergusson College Pune.
Oculus, his school of photography is a teaching academy with a difference. Here the students are taught theory and practice with so much sincerity that they actually revere the master.
Sagar has already trained more than 500 students and it is not a surprise that many professionals from other fields who want to pursue photography as a hobby, like doctors, chartered accountants and lawyers are queuing up at oculus for enrollment.
A trained cinematographer from THE DIGITAL ACADEMY Mumbai, he has also shot many Industrial & Commercial films as well as a feature film for RGV films needless to say was the director’s most favorite cameraman.
